Castel di Croce
Castel di Croce is a small village at the foot of Monte Ascensione, 770 m above sea level, where the new (the church of S. Severino, the square and fountain, works by architect V. Pilotti) and the old (church of S. Maria del Popolo with late 15th century frescoes and the houses of the medieval nucleus) are perfectly and harmoniously reconciled.
In the square, opposite the church, is the well-known ‘Wine Fountain’, where the ‘miracle of the fountain throwing wine’ is repeated every year during the village festival.
The western side of the village, where a landslide once stood, ends today with a balcony from which one can admire a splendid panorama of the Sibillini chain
